Where is Your Foundation?
Foundation is the very base of a building and the building stands on it. We may not see the foundation as it’s usually underground but a building stand because of a strong foundation. When the foundation weakens either by not building a strong foundation or by high magnitude earthquakes a building topple over.
Foundations are in other words similar to the root of a tree. We see a big tree up above the ground. We say nice tree got tasty fruits and beautiful leaves, flowers and branches but hardly anyone appreciates the roots as it’s deep under the soil. The bigger the tree more in depth the root lays hence making it strong to face heavy winds and storms.
Our lives can be compared to a building or a tree. We stand strong and high depending on how strong our foundations are. If our foundations are strong we will be able to stand if our foundations are weak we will fall.
Let me point out to the parable He said as a conclusion to his sermon on the mountains.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NIV).
There is no need to explain any further but it says those who hear his words and keep them are like the wise man who build his house on strong foundation. Rain came down, Storms raged and wind blew heavy on the house but as it’s foundation was on a rock it was able to withstand the forces but the other hand the foolish man build his house on sand. When rain came down,storms raged and wind blew the house couldn’t stand and it collapsed. Therefore let’s make our foundations strong before we build anything above.
Colossians 2:6,7- “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6, 7 NIV). Says as Christ Jesus has been received in our hearts -by confessing our sins and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour who came to earth to die for our sins and laid his life on cross of Calvary for us and who resurrected from death and living in heaven and is coming to gather us by believing in heart and confessing by mouth and surrendering our lives to Jesus- we have to live a holy life and keep his commandments there by living in him and being rooted more and more in Christ so as to grow up more strengthen in Faith and thankfulness.
Also Ephesians 3:17 asks us to be rooted in Love and understand the depths of love of Christ by measuring the unmeasurable length width and height which been given to us on cross of Calvary.
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV).
For those who are rooted in Christ through his love is promised to give your wishes much more than you ask and wish for.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20, 21 NIV)
Well my dear readers where is our foundation today? Is it on the wealth and possessions of this world or is it in Christ? 1 Corinthians 10:3 says he is the rock of ages and 1 Corinthians 3:10,11 says there is no other foundation other than Jesus Christ. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:10, 11 NIV)
Therefore let’s have a strong foundation in Christ and build up our faith and grow more deeper in his love as the wise man build his house on rock. Problems will come as heavy rains, storms and tempest in our journey of life. If we have a strong foundation in God we will stand else we will fall. Therefore let’s not deceive ourselves as the foolish man who build his house on sand. May God Bless You!
