Butterflies are one of the most prettiest insects in the world. Everyone especially children love to see a butterfly. It’s beautiful shaped wings and the spectacular design on the wings make them attractive. But are the butterflies born that way?
Most of us have learned the life cycle of a butterfly in school. They don’t born as butterflies but the stages on their life makes them butterfly. There are four stages in the life cycle of a butterfly.
First stage is the egg form. They come out from the eggs as a worm often called a caterpillar or larvae in the second stage. They eat on green leaves and start to grow up. Once they reach a certain stage they start making a Nest around them called Pupa. They rest in this condition for many days. This is the third state. Then the forth stage when they open up the pupa and comes out not as a caterpillar or larvae but as a beautiful butterfly. Thus it takes four stages in it’s life to transform from an egg to butterfly.
When the eggs were hatched and caterpillar came out they were not pretty. They look yucky! Nobody liked it and ever want to touch them. All who see will think what a sort of worm! Just keeps eating all green leaves! Such a waste. But the caterpillar does not stop hearing all this. But it keeps feeding until it knows a certain limit. Then it starts making the Pupa. Again many other birds who make beautiful nests might say what a pity you live in a nest made out of your spit? Such disgusting! How can someone ever live like that! But the caterpillar is not discouraged but keep working on it and it silently waits inside. Then one day when nobody is expecting anything more out of the pupa or when they say there was once a worm living inside that Pupa God knows what happened to it as it went in few days back and nobody has ever seen him out. He might have died in it! Who knows? When everyone keeps saying this and that here comes a beautiful butterfly out from the Pupa! It’s no longer a worm or larvae or caterpillar but it’s a beautiful butterfly which can fly around from one flower to another drinking honey from the flowers instead of green leaves! A completely different lifestyle! Wow what a transformation! It never goes back to the old caterpillar stage again but it lives as a butterfly until it dies. What an honor what a great privilege what a great transformation!
This is the same with our lives. We all are born like the larvae or caterpillar to this sinful world. We were wandering and eating up all the sins of the world. We were ugly and disgusting to anyone who looks at us. We were not worthy to anyone. But like the Pupa we were lucky to meet the amazing Saviour Jesus Christ in life! He took us in him and changed us all around. He took away our sins by dying for us on Cross of Calvary. His body was broken for us and poured out the very last drop of blood in his body and with that precious blood he bought you and me from the depths of sin to redemption and salvation absolutely free for anyone who repents his sin and accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour in life. To those who accepted Jesus, He came in their lives. He changed every aspect of us we were no longer the same as a worm or a larvae but we we were transformed to like butterflies. We left the old habits of feeding on sin but now we feed on the honey of God’s words! What an amazing transformation! Before we were disgusting to the world but now we are precious before others eyes! We been given a great name and value in society. What a mighty transformation and now we just not only fly around and drink honey but like butterflies we carry the seeds of word of God and we fly from one plant to another spreading the seed of Word of God to the unreached that it will transform the lives of others! Oh what a great privilege and honor to bring a ray of hope and light to those who are living in the darkest moments of life to whom see death the only option in front of them!
It’s true in the Pupa it’s not easy. It takes a long time. It destroys all the tissues of caterpillar in order to transform to a butterfly. Like a diamond is produced not when coal (Carbon) is lying freely on soil but when the coal (carbon) undergoes extreme temperature and pressure it modifies the worthless chunk of coal into priceless diamond. Like a worthless shell in the sea when a drop of sand enter in to the innermost chamber the skin of the insect inside burns out but it transforms and produces priceless Pearl!
Likewise we have to pay a price. We have to undergo severe pressures of life just understand God your owner the Great Potter is just shaping you the clay into a beautiful vessel. Like the vessel is not just made out just from the wheel and has to pass through the kiln to make it pure by burning all the impurities away and become strong, to make you strong you have to under go certain tests in life to become more pure, precious and stronger like the gold and silver which is melted in the refiners fire to make it pure to remove all impurities in it we might under go great pains and tests in life. They are not to destroy us but is to make us more pure more strong and more precious for the work of the kingdom of God.
Therefore let’s completely surrender in the hands of God our Creator to remove all impurities in us and to make a precious vessel, a precious Jewell, a beautiful butterfly out of the miry clay, the coal, the caterpillar for the glory of His name.
“For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.” (Psalm 66:10-12 NIV)
“This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ” (Zechariah 13:9 NIV)
“For my own name’s sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to destroy you completely. See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.” (Isaiah 48:9-11 NIV)
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:3-9 NIV)
“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.”
(1 Peter 4:12-14 NIV)
So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. (1 Peter 4:19 NIV)
