Stay a While…
We live in a very competitive world. Everyone’s busy. Nobody has time for anything. From the time we wake up in morning we are on a mission to accomplish all the tasks assigned to the day. Still we cannot finish all tasks and to those who can work from home continue to work from home to finish of the tasks while others postpone things to the following day and do other things that could be done that time. Anyway by night you are devastated and you fall tired on your bed. The story continues next day and forever until our end. Nobody got any time to spare.
Time and age are two things that we have no control on. You may not think a minute is valuable but if you are involved in an accident then each passing seconds are priceless until you get to safe hands of doctors! And so is age. There are things that need to be done at certain stages which you cannot done at an older age. For example if you have a small kid you should spend time with him or her now because you cannot spend time as now to your kids after ten years as your kid won’t be a small kid anymore! Therefore we are time and age bound.
Again we live a short term in this world. We don’t know when our clock of Life stops ticking. Every night when we go to bed we keep alarms hoping for a tomorrow but nobody except God knows whether we have any time on earth tomorrow. Once your clock of life stop ticking, we are no longer busy. No matter even if someone offer $1000000 we won’t run behind him as we are dead. The moment we die all our busy schedules, works everything that was considered important comes to an end. Sadly we cannot do anything after that. Therefore be sure even though it’s a busy world spend your time wisely. Give attention to things that are less important too. Spend time with your family, friends, relatives. Take some holidays what’s the whole purpose running behind your career and job and earn big money and die without spending any of the money you earn? Therefore make some time and reschedule things in your busy lives to spend time for everything wisely.
‘As they were going down to the edge of the town, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us”—and the servant did so—“but you stay here for a while, so that I may give you a message from God.”’ (1 Samuel 9:27 NIV)
This is a conversation between Samuel and Saul. (Please go through 1 Samuel 9 & 10). Saul’s father Kish lost his donkeys and he send his son Saul and a servant to find them. They been wandering lands after lands, places after places but they couldn’t find them. Its the third day now and as you know unlike today there was no means of communication to let his father know whether or not they found the donkeys. As it came to the third day they decided to go back as they thought Saul’s father Kish will be worrying about Saul now rather to the donkeys. But his servant said there is a prophet who can foretell things and maybe he could help them finding the donkeys. So they went to Prophet Samuel. Samuel already knew they were coming as God gave him a vision on Saul. As Saul and his servant met Samuel it was already late and so Samuel insisted them to stay with him that night. Then the next morning Samuel set everything ready to send them off and as they were about to leave is when the verse above is seen.
‘As they were going down to the edge of the town, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us”—and the servant did so—“but you stay here for a while, so that I may give you a message from God.”’ (1 Samuel 9:27 NIV).
Saul went to find his father’s donkeys. What he wanted to know is where the donkeys are so he and his servant can find them and bring home safely and as early as possible. But Samuel is asking Saul to ‘stay a while‘ for he will give a message from God! Today God is asking the same question to you. He knows you are busy but can you stay for a while to hear from God?
In the 10th chapter we see Saul obeys Samuel and he wait for him to speak and we see instead of telling him about his donkeys Samuel is giving a special anointing over Saul. As God told Samuel he anoint Saul and give him the message from God that God has seen him as the first king of Israel! And Samuel gives a detailed account of things that will take place on the rest of the day and he also informs the donkeys that Saul and his servant were looking had already been found and now Saul’s father is worrying about his son’s return. Samuel asks Saul to go ahead of Samuel to Gilgal and again to ‘wait‘ there for 7 days until Samuel reach and he will further instruct what to be done! And Saul obeys and in the end of the chapter we see everything happens as Samuel told him and he go to Gilgal and wait for Samuel’s arrival for seven days. And on seventh day Samuel reach Gilgal and in front of all people of Israel Samuel anoint Saul as the first king of Israel!
‘Samuel summoned the people of Israel to the Lord at Mizpah and said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the power of Egypt and all the kingdoms that oppressed you.’ But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your disasters and calamities. And you have said, ‘No, appoint a king over us.’ So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and clans.” When Samuel had all Israel come forward by tribes, the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri’s clan was taken. Finally Saul son of Kish was taken. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.” They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the people he was a head taller than any of the others. Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” Then the people shouted, “Long live the king!”’ (1 Samuel 10:17-24 NIV)
See what a great intervene of events! Saul who went to search for his father’s donkeys has now been appointed the king of Israel! What a turning point in his life? Samuel when asked Saul to stay he never even imagined anything about becoming the king but when he waited we see he been anointed as the King of Israel!
It is similar in our lives. God wants to do great things through us. He’s asking us to wait so he can talk to us. But we are so busy in many things and run away from God and we keep complain we not getting any blessings in life. How can God bless us when we are not waiting on him to listen what he wants to say and obey it? Therefore let’s find sometime in our busy lives to ‘stay a while’ for prayer to God to know what His will in our lives for He will speak to us and will lead us to greater blessings. Will you stay a while today to hear the message of your creator God? It will be special because no eyes have seen, no ears have heard nobody ever thought what God provides to those who love and wait for him.
‘Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.’ (Isaiah 64:4 NIV)
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him— (1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV)
Will you wait for a while so God can speak to you? He has greater plans for us. You might be undergoing certain difficulties in life. You might be wandering like Saul from places to places trying to find the answers for the troubles and problems you facing in life. But let me tell you these problems what you facing are not for long. They are for a little while. These problems appear to happen for no reason. But these are happening so that God can bring you to him like Saul was brought to Samuel to let you know God’s will in your life. Therefore do not worry on your present situations and problems for it is said.
‘And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.’ (1 Peter 5:10 NIV)
‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.‘ (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
Therefore don’t get worry on the problems what you been facing but understand it’s for a better reason to bring you to God’s presence as He wanted so that God can speak to you and use you not to destroy you but to give you hope and a better future in life.
‘“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.‘ (Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV)
Again let me warn you, times ticking and seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years are passing away. There is no much time left ahead of us. Each day we pass our lives are getting shorter as we are getting closer to the end of our race of life. Let’s be wise and spend some time today while when we can before it’s too late to wait for a while to hear what God wants us to do through our lives for even devil knows he got a little time and is filled with fury and is running all over the world with great wrath to make conflicts among people so as to get them away from God. Let’s not fall for it but finish our race of life faithfully and successfully by listening to God and doing his will on earth.
‘Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”’ (Revelation 12:12 NIV)
‘Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”‘ (Matthew 26:40-41 NIV)
‘He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’ (Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV)
‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.’ (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
