Salt

Salt is an essential part of our life. We use salt every day in our food as a flavoring agent to increase the taste of the food, a preservative agent to preserve food for a long time, as an antiseptic agent for its curative power and many other properties. Salt is formed when a sodium atom is combined with chlorine atom, producing sodium chloride or commonly known as ‘salt‘. Salt is an essential substance for the equilibrium of our body.

Salt is found abundant in nature. We know two third of the earth is covered with sea and the sea water tastes salty. Salt is also found from the rocks in a different form called rock salt. Common salt is usually obtained by reserving a certain amount of seawater and making the water to evaporate using sunlight. As the water evaporates salt is obtained. Hence it is quite easy process to obtain salt and is available cheaply in the market.

Even though salt is obtained cheaply it has priceless value for its applications like flavoring food, preservative agent, antiseptic agent, raw material for making glass and other substances, anti freezing agent etc. Thus salt has a great role in our life.

This is why in Mathew 5 Jesus referred his disciples as salt.
“You are the salt of the earth.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ NIV).
I often wondered why Jesus said you are the salt but not sugar or something else. The reason as mentioned above is its great role in different areas and no other compounds can be as useful as salt. So cheap yet so precious! As mentioned above salt is formed by combining a Sodium atom with a Chlorine atom forming Sodium Chloride. Sodium is highly unstable and cannot be stored in the normal way as it tends to catch fire! It is usually stored in kerosine instead of water as sodium can burn in contact with water! The melting point of sodium is 97.72 deg Celsius and the melting point of Chlorine is -101.5 deg Celsius, but when these two elements form sodium chloride its melting point increases to an amazing 801 deg Celsius! As you know sodium has 11 protons in its nucleus and have 11 electrons revolving around it. As per the octal configuration, there are 2 electrons in the first orbit and 8 electrons in the second orbit giving a total of 10 electrons. The remaining 1 electron is in the third orbit and is highly unstable. Thus, it finds the chlorine atom which has 17 protons in nucleus and 17 electrons, 2 electrons in the first orbit, 8 in second orbit and 7 in the third orbit again in an unstable position where the Sodium donates the wandering electron and gaining stability and Chlorine accepts the electron and gains stability in the third orbit. But at the same time when sodium loses an electron it makes the sodium a slight positive charge and chlorine obtains a negative charge by gaining the electron. Therefore, they stay together to nullify the charges as neutral or zero forming a stable compound Sodium Chloride!

This feature can be related to our life. Our fore parents, Adam and Eve sinned against God and the whole mankind was brought to sin. We lost joy, hope and peace our stability in life. We can be pictured as the chlorine atom which has an emptiness in life. God wanted to restore the relation between man and God and as you know God sacrificed his son Jesus to regain the lost connection with mankind. ‘Jesus’ can be pictured as the ‘electron‘ in the third orbit of Sodium atom. By giving Jesus God lost a part of him like the Sodium atom did, but to those chlorine atoms ‘us’ who accepted Jesus in our lives as ‘Lord and Saviour’ by believing in heart and declaring by mouth that Jesus died for our sins and suffered all the pain and suffering for us on the cross of Calvary and gave the very last drop of blood as the redemption of our sins and repent our sins and lead a holy life their sins are forgiven. ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.’ (‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9-10‬ NIV). Jesus filled our emptiness in life. He removed our sins and filled with the lost joy, peace and hope! Thus like the chlorine atom our emptiness in life was filled. Not only that, as the charge fluctuations between sodium and chloride now we have a strong bond between God and us since we accepted Jesus in our lives. Now we are a stable and better compound than from our self as Chlorine atom before! What an amazing grace! What a great honor and privilege to have this amazing Saviour Jesus in our lives!

This is why Jesus referred ‘us‘ as ‘the Salt of the earth.‘ For now, since we accepted Jesus in our lives, its not just us but God is also there with us. Together we can do great things in life like flavouring the un tasty food to tasty we can remove the bitterness in others life by filling the joy and peace of Jesus in the life of many who haven’t heard about Jesus by spreading the Gospel of Jesus, Preserving food from decaying by keeping germs away and keeping the food safe for longer consumptions where with salt (God with us) we will be able to withstand evil and walk in the ways of righteousness, as a curative agent we can be applied as curative agents for those who are under going great pains, griefs, stress and hurts in life, let’s be the salt in many by maintaing the equilibrium of the body and life, be productive as the raw material of several complex products like glass to glorify God’s name through our life, like an anti freezing agent by melting away the ice on roads and making safe passage for vehicles to their destinations let’s be the anti icing agents against the ice or sins by which others be guided to safety of heaven and not to destruction by sharing the Gospel of Jesus! This is what God wants us to do!

“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭42‬:‭6-7‬ NIV)

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”'(‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18-20‬ NIV)

Also note once salt is added to water or other mediums it no longer stays as salt as it dissolves completely without leaving any residue behind. Let’s be ready to be dissolved without leaving any trails of glory behind us by giving us completely and giving all glory and honor to God and remove the emptiness in others life and bringing great outcomes. It’s not about us anymore but about God and glory of his name through our lives. Therefore let’s not boast ourselves on the outcomes but humble ourselves more for God can use us for greater things.

‘Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”’ (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭31‬ NIV)

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ (‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭23 NIV)

For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.’ (‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬: 29‬ NIV)

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬ NIV)

Therefore, my dear readers, if you haven’t accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour in your life and undergoing emptiness in life as the chlorine atom accept this Amazing God the only Saviour in life by saying this prayer below believing in heart and declaring by mouth and living a holy life according to His commandments.

Heavenly Father, I accept and believe Jesus is the only true God who came to redeem my sins. I believe Jesus is the son of God who came to this earth to die for my sins and to fulfil Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary and all the sufferings and pain that Jesus took on the body was for me, He was broken down and gave His very last drop of blood for me on the Cross of Calvary for the redemption of my sins and I accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour in my life, I confess my sins and give my life for Jesus. Please forgive me for every mistake I made in my life. Please come in me, live in me, fill in me and guide me until the last breath of my life and help me to stay away from evil ways and lead a holy and victorious Christian life as you please. And bring me to heaven to be with you forever. In Jesus name. Amen!

Jesus will fill your emptiness in life. He will take away all the burdens of your life and fill you with His heavenly joy, peace and hope and will help you to come out all the impossible situation you facing in life. He will guide you and lead you in the paths of righteousness! And not only that like salt, let’s be the salt to deliver many out of their troubles and leading them to Christ for the glory of His name.

Also beware not to loose the saltiness in our life by falling into sins as God will go away from our life as God is holy and we won’t be the same salt again. We won’t be worth for anything else other than to be thrown away. Therefore. Let’s be humble, faithful and submit our self before God and lead a holy life spreading the saltiness in us to others life for the glory of His name.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ NIV)
