The Real Birthday!
Birth and death are the two major events in a person’s life. The birth signifies the existence of a new person into the earth and the death signifies the non existence of the person on this earth. We tend to be happy on our birthday for God kept us safe and gave another 365 days or a year in our life since our last birthday even though we were not faithful, many a time. We often tend to forget It is not our ability, but God’s grace we are living in this world. Whatever you are, whether rich or poor, big or small, strong or weak, a believer or an atheist knowingly or unknowingly you are living by the Grace of God. It is God’s mercy that you are able to take the next breath you exhale. The minute you cannot breath you are no more in this world. Therefore, let’s be humble and lead a holy life, helping people in society and glorifying the name of God.
“Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.” (Psalm 39:5 NIV)
The earth we live in is estimated to be 4.54 billion (4,540,000000) years! But our time on earth is limited. We are short lived and have a short span of time on this earth. As Moses said in Psalms 90 our average life span is 70-80 years. “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10 NIV). Even if we calculate at 100 years of age we still live only 0.000002% of life compared to the age of the earth! But even though we are here for a short time our destiny is decided in this term of life on earth. We have only one life on earth and we cannot reincarnate physically and come back into existence after many years of our death. Therefore, let’s be careful how we lead our life.
In the 3rd chapter of the Book of John we see a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus. Nicodemus was not an ordinary man, he was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish ruling counsel. But Jesus warns him unless you are ‘Born Again,’ you will not see the kingdom of God!
‘Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ”‘ (John 3:3 NIV)
He was such a great and noble man, but Jesus didn’t look how great the person was but He warned him unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of God! This obviously raises the next question how can somebody ‘born again’ when you are already born into the earth. But Jesus clearly answers this question. Let’s have a look into the scripture.
‘Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’a The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.’ (John 3:1-21 NIV)
Well, this was a bit complicated to understand for Nicodemus for he didn’t know the mission of Jesus on earth. But we are fortunate that we live in this era where we can look back and understand the scriptures since it’s already taken place.
Our fore parents, Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating the Forbidden Fruit in the Garden of Eden. Many of you may think is there such a big deal in eating a fruit. But it’s not just about eating fruit, but the ‘action of disobedience’ made it a sin. Sin whether big or small is a sin. God is holy and God cannot come to sin, for they will be consumed by fire before him. This is why Adam and Eve couldn’t stand before God. So the act of disobedience caused the sin and as a result God couldn’t come to man as before for the man will die. The children who were born through the sinful parents were also born in sin. Thus the whole mankind, including you and me are born with sin and God lost the connection between man and God.
But God didn’t forget mankind. He wanted to reunite the lost relation between man and God. This is why God sent his one and only Son Jesus into this world. Anyone who is born in a natural way will be a sinner. Therefore when it was God’s appointed time, God send his angel Gabriel to a virgin woman in Israel named Mary and spoke about the birth of Jesus through her by Holy Spirit and she accepted the challenge for in those days it was a great shame to be a child bearer before marriage.
‘In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.’ (Luke 1:26-38 NIV)
And as a result Jesus was born into this world through the Holy Spirit and He didn’t have sin as we did since he was not conceived the natural way but by the Holy Spirit. Now we come to the Passage we saw in John 3 where Jesus and Nicodemus speak about being born again. In fact, Jesus was telling Nicodemus about the divine plan of God for mankind through him. As said it is impossible for a grown man to get into the mother’s womb and born again, but what Jesus meant was about accepting Jesus in life through His death at the cross of Calvary.
As you know, Jesus was born in human nature and lead a holy life proclaiming the word of God to the people around Him. Jesus was 100% man at the same time Jesus was 100% God. He went through all the troubles as anyone of us face in life. Yet He did not sin. He was God, for He healed many, raised dead and performed many miracles, but at the same time He was a human since he was thirsty, hungry and needed sleep as anyone of us needed.
‘Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.‘ (Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV)
And when the time came as mentioned in the last chapters of each Gospels- Mathew (26,27), Mark (14,15), Luke (22,23) and John (18,19) – Jesus was crucified. He suffered great sufferings as mentioned in Isaiah 53 as a fulfillment of that prophecy. He became ugly and deformed and no one could recognise Him for Jesus was beaten up so terribly. He didn’t do anything wrong, but He was crucified. His body was crushed and gave the very last drop of his blood and even water on the cross of Calvary. He died not for doing anything wrong, but He died for you and me. He took all the burden of sins of mankind on his shoulder and became a sacrifice for you and me so that the lost connection between man and God at the garden of Eden was restored through the death of Jesus on the cross. For sin came into existence through the First Adam and Jesus the last Adam brought an end to it.
Not only Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sin, but also He gave this great gift of Salvation from sin absolutely free. The Bible tells us the price of a soul is far much greater than the whole world itself.
‘No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them— the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough— so that they should live on forever and not see decay.’ (Psalm 49:7-9 NIV)
‘What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?‘ (Matthew 16:26 NIV)
Then how can someone possibly avail salvation? God gifted this amazing salvation through Jesus absolutely free! To those who accept and believe in heart and declare by mouth Jesus is my Lord and Saviour in life their sins are forgiven!
‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.'(Romans 10:9-10 NIV)
For those who accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour in life and repent the old ways of sin and decide to lead a holy life according to God’s commandments you are ‘born again.‘ Your sins are forgiven. It is no longer the old you, but a new you that God brings you. He has forgiven all your sins. No matter what your sins were or who you are it’s all gone. The old is gone and the new has come. God gave His son Jesus who had no sin to be sin for us, so, through Jesus, we might become righteous before God! What an amazing love! This is Real Birthday of your life! For the old has died and you have become absolutely new!
‘So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.’ (2 Corinthians 5:16-21 NIV)
This is why Jesus told Nicodemus the great Pharisee and the member of Jewish counsel unless you are born again, you will not enter the kingdom of God! Thus Christ Jesus became the sacrifice to die for our sins and bring back the lost relation between man and God to whoever who accept Jesus in their life as Lord and Saviour and lead a holy life obeying God’s commandments through the death of Jesus on the cross of Calvary! Not only the redemption of sins to those who accept Jesus in life, but also you have become a child of God!
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.‘ (John 3:16 NIV)
‘He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.’ (John 1:11-13 NIV)
Will you accept this wonderful Saviour in your life today? Will you born again for the redemption of your sins and to be with God forever for Jesus is coming back to gather his children and to take them to heaven to be with him forever and ever. Therefore, this is the grace period, today is your day. Will you accept this great Saviour in your life today before it’s too late?
‘“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.’ (John 14:1-3 NIV)
‘The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.’ (2 Peter 3:9 NIV)
‘For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.’ (2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV)
If you willing to accept Jesus in your life and born again, please repeat this following prayer by accepting and believing in the heart and declaring by mouth.

Please forgive me for every mistake I made in my life. Please come in me, live in me, fill in me and guide me until the last breath of my life and help me to stay away from evil ways and lead a holy and victorious Christian life as you please. And bring me to heaven to be with you forever. In Jesus name. Amen!’

But to those who don’t accept this great Saviour you will be sent to ‘hell’ forever. Therefore accept this amazing Saviour Jesus in your life and be Born Again and be a part of heaven!
‘Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”’ (Revelation 21:1-8 NIV)
