Changing Dry Life!
We often come up with certain problems in life where we get completely stuck up not knowing what to do and how to get through. It’s very hard and painful situation. You try everything you know and all the possible ways of help and try to get over it, but what if nothing works and you end up completely stuck up? You wait and wait and wait patiently and nothing works! It’s such a tiring and helpless situation. You may even try praying and what if you don’t see any result on it and you end up that way completely stuck up? Eventually you leave that particular thing and try some alternate way. You may end up somewhere else than what you really wanted. As time goes by, you try to forget the original plan and try to get adjusted to the alternative way. Today I want to point out such a dry life situation coming out to life.
In the prophetic book of Ezekiel chapter 37 we see God leading His servant Ezekiel to a valley of dry bones in a vision and asks him, “Will these dry bones come to life?!”
‘The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”’ (Ezekiel 37:1-3 NIV)
For humans, it is impossible and in those days with such limited technology and medicines it was beyond imagination. Even today with all technological and medical advancements we cannot bring dead alive, sometimes with the help of CPR we may able to generate a shock and try to revive the person who has passed away a few minutes before, but still it’s not very successful and it can never work on older bodies. Then what’s more to be said about bones! And what about very dry bones? Can they ever bring back to life? Impossible! And Ezekiel was in a confused situation where he cannot deny God and comes up with an answer when he clearly knows impossible and says “Sovereign God you alone know!”
But what happens next is beyond imagination. God asks him to prophesy to the dead dry bones!
‘Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’ ”’ (Ezekiel 37:4-6 NIV)
Ezekiel didn’t doubt God and he obeyed God in what He said and prophesied to the dry bones. As soon as he started to prophesy a great miracle which has never taken place begin to unveil before his eyes! He heard a rattling sound and the bones started to join together, bone to bone and formed the proper skeleton! Then, as he looked, he saw the tendons and flesh with nerves and muscles appear and finally the skin covering them! But there was no breath in them.
‘So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.’ (Ezekiel 37:7-8 NIV)
Then the spirit of God asked Ezekiel to prophesy to the wind to come and breathe into these slain, that they may live and he prophesied and the wind blew into them and they came to life and stood up on their feet as a vast army!
‘Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’ ” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.’ (Ezekiel 37:9-10 NIV)
Well, this sounds absolutely impossible, but this was a vision God gave to His servant Ezekiel, yes the dry bones coming back to life! An impossible task brought into action! The next verse clearly tells us the vivid picture behind this vision.
Ezekiel was a prophet in Israel during the time when Israel was captured by the Babylonian Empire. They came and attacked Israel and were taken captives into Babylon. The whole of Israel was destroyed. They lost all their hope to come back to their homeland. It was during this bad time God appeared to His servant Ezekiel through this vision and strengthened him to get the people of Israel not to get give up their hope, but to trust in The Lord for He is to bring them out from their captives and bring them to their homeland Israel!
‘Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’ ”’ (Ezekiel 37:11-14 NIV)
Today to the New Testament Israel, the chosen ones who accepted Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour in life and leading a holy life, God promises the same He spoke to Ezekiel. You may be undergoing several difficulties in life. You may be stranded or grounded with several problems where it seems impossible for you to break out. But God wants to let you know, like the very dry bones which were scattered all around the valley came together and stood up as a vast army as God worked through His servant Ezekiel, the dry hopes you expected to come over as a solution to your problems long back, which seemed impossible and seems dead and completely destroyed will come to life and as God work through your problems He will deliver you from all your problems at the right time. You may think its getting delayed, it’s taking too long, it’s too late, but God your Creator knows the perfect timing and He makes everything beautiful in the right time and deliver you from your impossible situation.
‘He has made everything beautiful in its time.’ (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)
Therefore, my dear readers, do not get worry on the hopeless situation you are facing in life, as how God brought the dry bones to life, He will take away all the dryness of your life and bring you back to everlasting life. Do not get tired and weak. Do not lose hope, but put your trust in God for He said- “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NIV)
Like how He raised Joseph from prison to be the Prime Minister of Egypt, Moses a murder to be the greatest leader the world ever saw, Jabez a Pain to be honorable and expanded to be named as the name of a city where great people of those days lived, Gideon a coward to a great leader, David a shepherd boy to be the King of Israel, Daniel a young boy captives to be the Prime Minister of three Great empires, Peter a fisherman with no good knowledge to the Head of Apostles, God is able to bring you out of your captivity and turn to something valuable! Let the whole world stand against you and discourage you, don’t lose hope He who said I have conquered the world is right beside you giving you strength, hope and courage on your situations and later will bring to greater positions for the glory of God’s name! Therefore do not be discouraged, be strong. God is able to deliver you from all your dryness of life.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
